3-Day Adventure Itinerary in Kerala in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Athirappilly Waterfalls
    1 hour 10 minutes (35.5 miles) from Cochin International Airport

    MORNING – After arriving at Cochin International Airport in the morning, take a scenic drive to Athirappilly Waterfalls, which is one of the largest waterfalls in Kerala. Trekking through the lush green forest to reach the waterfall is a must-do adventure activity. You can also take a dip in the pool of water at the bottom of the falls.

    AFTERNOON – Head to the nearby Charpa and Vazhachal waterfalls, both within a few kilometres of Athirappilly. You can enjoy a picnic lunch at one of the falls or try zip-lining across the falls for an adrenaline rush.

    EVENING – Visit the Thumboormuzhi Dam and Butterfly Park to witness the beautiful gardens and learn about different species of butterflies. After a tiring day, relax at your hotel.

  2. Day 2: Munnar
    3 hours (82.4 miles) from Athirappilly Waterfalls

    MORNING – After breakfast, drive to Munnar, a hill station in Kerala. Visit the Eravikulam National Park which is home to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr. You can also take a trek to Anamudi Peak for a panoramic view of the surrounding hills.

    AFTERNOON – Visit the Mattupetty Dam and take a boat ride in the serene waters of the dam. You can also visit the nearby Echo Point and shout out your name to hear the echo.

    EVENING – Visit the Tea Museum and learn about the history of tea plantations in Munnar. Take a leisurely walk in the tea gardens and enjoy the beautiful sunset. Head to your hotel for the night.

  3. Day 3: Wayanad
    4 hours 40 minutes (158.6 miles) from Munnar

    MORNING – After breakfast, drive to Wayanad, a scenic hill district in Kerala. Visit the Chembra Peak and trek to the heart-shaped lake amidst the lush green forest. Enjoy the panoramic view of the surrounding hills from the peak.

    AFTERNOON – Visit the Edakkal Caves, an archaeological wonder, to witness the rock carvings that date back to the Neolithic era. Take a nature walk in the nearby Ambukuthi hills to witness the beautiful flora and fauna.

    EVENING – Visit the Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earthen dam in India, and take a boat ride in the beautiful reservoir. You can also enjoy kayaking or even zip-lining across the dam. Head back to your hotel for the night.

Recommendations

If you have time, visit Alleppey and take a backwater cruise. You can also try bamboo rafting in Thekkady or visit the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary to witness the wildlife. For day trips, you can visit the Bekal Fort or the Guruvayoor Temple. Make sure to try the local cuisine, especially the Malabar Biriyani.
