3-Day Itinerary for Puri in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Jagannath Temple Puri
    10 minutes (2.4 km) from Puri Beach

    The Jagannath Temple is a 12th-century shrine dedicated to Lord Jagannath, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The temple is known for its annual Rath Yatra or Chariot Festival, where the idols of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra are carried in huge decorated chariots. The temple also has an Anand Bazaar or food market where you can taste the famous Mahaprasad or holy food of Lord Jagannath. You can also visit the nearby Gundicha Temple and Loknath Temple.

  2. Day 2: Puri Beach
    20 minutes (6.5 km) from Jagannath Temple Puri

    Puri Beach is a popular destination for its golden sand and clear waters. You can take a refreshing dip or enjoy a boat ride, or simply relax on the beach. The beach is also known for its delicious local seafood like crab, prawns and fish. You can also visit the nearby Swargadwar Beach and witness the beautiful sunrise and sunset views. In the evening, take a stroll along the beach or attend the Sand Art Festival held during the monsoon season.

  3. Day 3: Chilika Lake
    2 hours (50 km) from Puri Beach

    Chilika Lake is Asia's largest brackish water lagoon and a designated Ramsar Site. The lake is home to a variety of migratory birds like flamingos, pelicans, and herons, making it a paradise for bird watchers. You can also take a boat ride and witness the beautiful Irrawaddy dolphins. On the way back, visit the Alarnath Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu and the Raghurajpur Artist Village where you can see beautiful Pattachitra paintings and traditional Odissi dance performances.

You can also visit the Konark Sun Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and witness the beautiful architecture and sculptures. A day trip to Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha, is also recommended, where you can visit the ancient Lingaraj Temple, Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves, and the Odisha State Museum.
