2-Day Itinerary for Pondicherry in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Auroville
    25 minutes (7.8 miles) from Pondicherry

    Start your day by visiting Auroville, an experimental township that is home to people from over 50 different countries. In the morning, visit the Matrimandir, a golden dome that serves as the spiritual and physical center of Auroville. Afternoon, take a walk through the nearby Peace Area, which includes a banyan tree and an outdoor amphitheater. In the evening, head to the Visitor's Centre to learn more about Auroville's history and see various exhibits.

  2. Day 2: Promenade Beach
    10 minutes (2.5 miles) from Auroville

    Start your day at the Promenade Beach, a 1.2-mile-long boulevard along the Bay of Bengal. In the morning, take a stroll along the beach and watch the sunrise. Afternoon, head to the nearby Mahatma Gandhi statue and French War Memorial. In the evening, walk through the Old Town and visit the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, a spiritual community that was founded in 1926.

Recommendations

Consider visiting the Ousteri Lake, a large freshwater lake that is known for its beautiful sunset views. Day trips to Mahabalipuram and Chennai are also possible. Make sure to try some of Pondicherry's delicious French cuisine and visit the local markets for handmade crafts and textiles.
