Kedarnath Family-Friendly Itinerary in September 2023

  1. Day 1: Kedarnath Temple

    In the morning, visit the Kedarnath Temple, one of the most sacred shrines in Hinduism. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is located on the Garhwal Himalayan range. Afternoon is the best time to visit the temple as it has less crowd. In the evening, take a walk around the temple complex and enjoy the serene ambiance.

  2. Day 2: Vasuki Tal
    Located 7 km from Kedarnath Temple

    Visit Vasuki Tal, a high-altitude lake located in the Chorabari Bamak Glacier area. The trek to the lake is scenic and offers beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. In the afternoon, enjoy a picnic lunch by the lake and spend some time fishing. In the evening, trek back to Kedarnath.

  3. Day 3: Shankaracharya Samadhi

  4. Day 4: Chorabari Glacier

In the evening, return back to Kedarnath.

  5. Day 5: Gaurikund

    Visit Gaurikund, a small town famous for its hot water springs and the starting point of the trek to Kedarnath Temple. Take a dip in the hot water springs and relax your muscles. In the afternoon, enjoy a traditional Garhwali meal at a local restaurant. In the evening, return back to Kedarnath.

  6. Day 6: Sonprayag
    Located 20 km from Kedarnath Temple

    Visit Sonprayag, a small town on the banks of the Mandakini river. Take a dip in the river and enjoy the scenic views of the surrounding mountains. In the afternoon, visit the Triyuginarayan Temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu. In the evening, attend the aarti ceremony at the temple.

Recommendations

Other local attractions worth considering are the Tungnath Temple, Deoria Tal, and Rudra Cave. For day trips, you can visit Badrinath, Valley of Flowers, and Hemkund Sahib. To maximize your fun, make sure to carry warm clothes and comfortable shoes as most of the attractions require trekking.
