2-Day Family Friendly Itinerary for Chikmagalur in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Mullayanagiri Peak
    45 minutes (11.3 miles) from Chikmagalur

    Morning: Start your day with a visit to Mullayanagiri Peak, the highest peak in Karnataka. The scenic drive up the mountain takes you through lush forests and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding hills. Once you reach the top, you can take a short trek to the summit and enjoy the stunning panoramic views of the Western Ghats.
    Afternoon: Head to the Baba Budangiri Shrine and pay your respects at the Dargah. The shrine is surrounded by beautiful mountain ranges and is a serene spot for a picnic. Don't forget to try the local biryani at the small food stalls nearby.
    Evening: End your day with a visit to the Hebbe Falls and enjoy the cool misty breeze created by the cascading waterfall. The falls are surrounded by dense forests and are a great spot for photography.

    Afternoon: Drive to the Kudremukh National Park and enjoy the scenic beauty of the Western Ghats. The park is home to a variety of flora and fauna, including tigers, leopards, and elephants. Go on a trek to the Kudremukh peak or take a jeep safari to explore the park.
    Evening: End your trip with a visit to the Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary and spot some of the rare and endangered species that call it home. The sanctuary is a birdwatcher's paradise, and you can spot several species of birds including the Malabar Trogon and the Indian Pitta.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, consider visiting the Kemmangundi Hill Station, which is known for its beautiful gardens and trekking trails. You can also take a day trip to the nearby town of Belur and visit the Chennakesava Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
