3-Day Dharamshala Itinerary - July 2023

  1. Day 1: Visit McLeod Ganj
    20 minutes (6 km) from Dharamshala

    Start your day by visiting McLeod Ganj, a suburb of Dharamshala, also known as "Little Lhasa". The place is famous for its Tibetan culture, handicrafts, and cuisine. Begin with a hearty breakfast of momos and thukpa. Visit the Tsuglagkhang Complex, home of the Dalai Lama. Here, you can learn more about the Tibetan struggle for freedom and stroll through the beautiful gardens. Walk around the town and enjoy the colorful Tibetan prayer flags and street art. In the evening, head to the Dal Lake, surrounded by deodar trees, for some peace and quiet.

  2. Day 2: Visit Kangra Fort and Kareri Lake
    1 hour 30 minutes (25 km) from McLeod Ganj

    Start your day with a visit to Kangra Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This ancient fort was built by the Katoch dynasty and is known for its rich history and beautiful views. Explore the fort's various temples, including the Ambika Devi Temple and the Laxmi Narayan Temple. After lunch, take a trek to Kareri Lake. The trek is not too strenuous and offers stunning views of the Dhauladhar Range. Experience the serene beauty of the lake surrounded by mountains and forests. Spend the evening camping by the lake or head back to McLeod Ganj.

  3. Day 3: Visit Dharamkot and Bhagsu Waterfall

    Start your day by visiting Dharamkot, a small village near McLeod Ganj. The village offers a breathtaking view of the Kangra Valley and the Dhauladhar Range. Take a leisurely walk around the village, and explore the cafes and shops. After lunch, head to the Bhagsu Waterfall. The waterfall is a popular tourist spot and is surrounded by lush green forests. Take a dip in the cool waters or sit and enjoy the beauty of the waterfall. Spend the evening exploring the bustling streets of McLeod Ganj and indulging in some local delicacies.
