Jagannath Puri Family Friendly 3-Day Itinerary in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Jagannath Temple
10 minutes (2.2 km) from Puri Beach

Start your day early by visiting the Jagannath Temple, one of the most significant Hindu temples in India. Marvel at the intricate carvings on the temple walls and observe the daily rituals and ceremonies. Afterwards, enjoy a delicious breakfast at Mahaprasad, a restaurant near the temple which serves traditional Odia cuisine. In the afternoon, head to Puri Beach and spend some time relaxing by the sea. As evening approaches, visit the Puri Beach Market to shop for souvenirs and try some street food.

  2. Day 2: Chilika Lake and Raghurajpur
1 hour 20 minutes (50 km) from Puri Beach

Take a day trip to Chilika Lake, the largest saltwater lake in Asia and a birdwatcher's paradise. Enjoy a boat ride and spot some of the migratory birds that flock to the lake in July. Next, visit the nearby village of Raghurajpur, known for its Pattachitra paintings and Gotipua dance. Watch a live performance of the dance and purchase some artwork as souvenirs. Return to Puri in the evening and enjoy dinner at the Ananya Restaurant, which offers a beautiful view of the Jagannath Temple.

  3. Day 3: Konark Sun Temple and Ramchandi Beach
1 hour 20 minutes (35 km) from Puri Beach

On your last day, visit the Konark Sun Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the finest examples of Kalinga architecture. Admire the spectacular stone carvings depicting scenes from Hindu mythology. After visiting the temple, head to Ramchandi Beach, a secluded beach with pristine waters and golden sands. Spend some time swimming, sunbathing or just relaxing. In the evening, return to Puri and enjoy a farewell dinner at the Chung Wah Restaurant, which serves delicious Chinese food.

Recommendations

If you have more time, consider visiting the Jagannath Rath Yatra festival in July, which is a grand procession of Lord Jagannath's chariot. You can also take a day trip to the nearby town of Bhubaneswar, known for its ancient temples and caves.
