7-Day Adventure Itinerary in Meghalaya, November 2023

  1. Day 1: Shillong
    30 minutes (10 km) from Shillong Airport

    Start your adventure with a visit to Elephant Falls in the morning. Take a short hike to the bottom of the falls for an up-close view of the cascading water. In the afternoon, head to Shillong Peak for panoramic views of the city and surrounding hills. Finish the day with a walk around the Ward's Lake.

  2. Day 2: Cherrapunji
    2 hours (60 km) from Shillong

    Spend the morning at the Nohkalikai Falls, the tallest plunge waterfall in India. Take a short hike to the viewing point for a stunning view of the falls and the surrounding landscape. After lunch, visit the Mawsmai Caves, a network of limestone caves with impressive stalactite and stalagmite formations. End the day with a visit to the Living Root Bridges, an engineering marvel made out of the roots of living trees.

  3. Day 3: Dawki
    2 hours (80 km) from Cherrapunji

    Start your day with a boat ride on the crystal-clear waters of the Umngot River. Enjoy the stunning views of the lush green hills surrounding the river and the colorful boats gliding on the water. After lunch, visit the Dawki Bridge, a suspension bridge over the Umngot River bordering India and Bangladesh. End the day with a trip to the nearby village of Mawlynnong, known as the cleanest village in Asia.

  4. Day 4: Nongriat
    2 hours (70 km) from Dawki

    Embark on a trek to the Double Decker Living Root Bridge in Nongriat in the morning. The trek takes approximately 2 hours and includes crossing several smaller root bridges and a refreshing swim in a natural pool. After lunch, visit the Rainbow Falls, a stunning waterfall with rainbow-colored mist.

  5. Day 5: Mawphlang
    2 hours (50 km) from Nongriat

    Visit the Mawphlang Sacred Forest in the morning, a dense forest with several rare and endemic plant species. Take a guided tour to learn about the local Khasi culture and their reverence for nature. After lunch, visit the David Scott Trail, a historic trail used during the British colonial period. The trail passes through lush forests and offers stunning views of the surrounding hills.

  6. Day 6: Jowai
    2 hours (65 km) from Mawphlang

    Visit the Krang Suri Falls in Jowai in the morning, a beautiful waterfall with turquoise blue water. Take a dip in the natural pool to cool off from the heat. After lunch, visit the Nartiang Monoliths, a collection of ancient megaliths and monoliths in the nearby village of Nartiang. End the day with a visit to the Tyrshi Falls, a stunning waterfall surrounded by lush greenery.

  7. Day 7: Shillong

    Take a heritage walk around the colonial buildings of Shillong in the morning. Visit the State Museum to learn more about the history and culture of Meghalaya. In the afternoon, visit the Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures to learn about the various indigenous communities in the state. End the day with a visit to the Laitlum Canyon for stunning views of the valley below.

Recommendations

If you have more time, consider a day trip to Mawlyngot village for a taste of traditional Khasi food. You can also visit the Balpakram National Park for a chance to spot some rare wildlife. To maximize your fun, be sure to bring comfortable walking shoes, a sunscreen, and a hat.
