5-Day Family Friendly Itinerary from Mumbai to Trimbakeshwar, Ghrishneshwar, Parali Vaijnath, Aundha Nagnath, Bhimashankar and back to Mumbai in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Trimbakeshwar
    3 hours 30 minutes (118 miles) from Mumbai

    In the morning, visit the Trimbakeshwar Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. It is located at the foothills of Brahmagiri Mountain, near the origin of the Godavari river. In the afternoon, take a dip in the Kushavarta Kund, which is considered to be the source of the Godavari river. In the evening, visit the Anjaneri Fort, the birthplace of Lord Hanuman's mother, Anjani.

  2. Day 2: Ghrishneshwar
    4 hours 30 minutes (170 miles) from Trimbakeshwar

    In the morning, visit the Ghrishneshwar Temple, another one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. It is located near Ellora Caves and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. In the afternoon, visit the Ellora Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and marvel at the rock-cut sculptures and architecture. In the evening, visit the Daulatabad Fort, a magnificent hill fortress with a fascinating history.

  3. Day 3: Parali Vaijnath
    5 hours 20 minutes (206 miles) from Ghrishneshwar

    In the morning, visit the Parali Vaijnath Temple, another one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. It is located in the Beed district of Maharashtra and is dedicated to Lord Shiva.   4. Day 4: Aundha Nagnath

    In the morning, visit the Aundha Nagnath Temple, another one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. It is located in the Hingoli district of Maharashtra and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Mallinath Digambar Jain Mandir, a beautiful Jain temple. In the evening, take a walk in the nearby serene surroundings.

  5. Day 5: Bhimashankar to Mumbai
    6 hours (213 miles) from Aundha Nagnath to Bhimashankar and 4 hours 40 minutes (130 miles) from Bhimashankar to Mumbai

    In the morning, visit the Bhimashankar Temple, another one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. It is located in the Sahyadri range of Maharashtra and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. In the afternoon, take a trek in the nearby Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to many species of flora and fauna. In the evening, drive back to Mumbai and spend the night.

Recommendations

You can also consider visiting the Ajanta and Ellora Caves, which are both UNESCO World Heritage Sites and located near Ghrishneshwar. You can also take a day trip to the Shani Shingnapur Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shani and is known for its unique tradition of having no doors for houses. To maximize your fun, try the local Maharashtrian cuisine at the various roadside eateries and restaurants.
