Take a day trip out to Lake Issyk, a beautiful alpine lake. You can take a picnic to the lake or have lunch at one of the restaurants. Explore the museum and learn about the history of the lake.
After a long day of hiking and skiing, relax at the Arasan Baths, located in the city centre. Choose from the sauna, steam room or the hot pool, then finish off with a massage. Enjoy a cup of tea after.
On your last day, revisit the Charyn Canyon for an afternoon hike. Time it right to catch the beautiful sunset over the canyon. Celebrate your adventure at dinner at one of the nearby restaurant.
To venture out of the city, there are several bus and car rental companies available. It's recommended to hire a car with a driver, and this can range from KZT 14,000 to KZT 17,000 per day. Taxi services are also widely available and affordable in the city, and public transportation is limited. Plan on spending about KZT 500 per taxi ride within the city.
If you have less time, consider skipping Tamgaly Tas or Altyn Arashan Hot Springs. If you have more time, add a visit to the Assy Plateau or visit the Balqash Lake. Note this itinerary may change due to weather conditions in winter.
The Almaty International Airport (ALA) is located 15 kilometers (9.5 miles) from the city centre. Taxi fare from the airport to downtown is around KZT 2,500.
