Begin your day by exploring the Historic District, a beautiful area filled with cobblestone streets, parks, and historic architecture. Make sure to visit the famous Forsyth Park, a 30-acre park known for its beautiful fountain and lush greenery. Take a stroll through the park or have a picnic with the locals. Afterward, check out the many boutique shops and art galleries that line the streets of the Historic District.
Head down to River Street, a historic area of the city overlooking the Savannah River. Take a tour of the many museums and galleries that are located in the area, or check out the many restaurants and bars that line the cobblestone streets. If you're a foodie, visit the City Market, a four-block-long open-air market that features local fare such as seafood, barbecue, and Southern-style cuisine.
While Savannah is a relatively small city, renting a car could be useful for getting around town. However, the Historic District and River Street are both easy to explore on foot. If you choose to use public transportation, the city offers buses, trolleys, and even bike rentals to get around.
If you have extra time, consider taking a day trip to Tybee Island, a beautiful beach town located just 20 minutes outside of Savannah. There are also several historic sites and plantations within driving distance of the city. If you have less time, consider combining the Historic District and Forsyth Park into one day and spending more time exploring the River Street and City Market areas.
Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV) is the primary airport in the area and is located just 15 minutes from the city center. It offers flights to major cities such as Atlanta, New York, and Chicago, and is served by several major airlines including Delta and American Airlines.
