4-Day Leh Ladakh Itinerary in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Thiksey Monastery
    22 minutes (12.1 km) from Leh

    Begin your journey with a visit to the Thiksey Monastery, one of the most beautiful monasteries in Leh Ladakh. The morning prayer ceremony here is a must-see, and afterward, explore the beautiful architecture and learn about the history of the monastery. For lunch, enjoy a traditional Ladakhi meal at the on-site restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Shey Palace, which was once the summer capital of Ladakh. End the day by watching the sunset over the Indus River at the nearby Choglamsar village.

  2. Day 2: Nubra Valley
    4 hours and 30 minutes (120 km) from Leh

    Head out early for a full day trip to Nubra Valley, a beautiful valley that is home to the Hunder sand dunes. Enjoy a camel safari and visit the Diskit Monastery, which houses a 106-foot statue of Maitreya Buddha. In the afternoon, visit the Yarab Tso Lake, a serene and beautiful lake that is a popular picnic spot. On the way back, enjoy a relaxing dip in the hot springs of Panamik village.

  3. Day 3: Pangong Lake
    4 hours and 30 minutes (150 km) from Leh

    Leave early for a full day trip to Pangong Lake, one of the most breathtaking lakes in the world. The journey to the lake takes you through the Changla Pass, which at 17,590 feet, is one of the highest motorable passes in the world. Spend the day exploring the lake and enjoy a picnic lunch on the shores. On the way back, visit the Hemis Monastery, which is the largest monastery in Ladakh.

  4. Day 4: Leh Palace and Local Market
    10 minutes (3 km) from Downtown Leh

    Start your day by visiting the Leh Palace, which was built in the 17th century. Learn about the history of the palace and enjoy the panoramic views of the city from the rooftop. Afterward, visit the local market and explore the various stalls selling everything from handmade crafts to delicious street food. In the afternoon, take a leisurely stroll along the banks of the Indus River and enjoy the beautiful scenery. End your trip with a traditional Ladakhi dinner at any of the local restaurants in Leh.
