3-Day Itinerary for Puri in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Jagannath Temple
    5 minutes (0.2 miles) from Puri Beach

    In the morning, head to Jagannath Temple, one of the most important Hindu pilgrimage sites in the world. This stunning temple is dedicated to Lord Jagannath and is said to have been built in the 12th century. Spend the afternoon exploring the temple complex and admiring the intricate carvings and architecture. In the evening, take part in the Aarti ceremony, where you can witness the temple priests performing a ritual of worship to the deities.

  2. Day 2: Chilika Lake
    1 hour 20 minutes (40 miles) from Jagannath Temple

    Start your day early and take a scenic drive to Chilika Lake, the largest coastal lagoon in India. Take a boat ride to explore the lake and its numerous islands, such as Honeymoon Island and Breakfast Island. You can also spot dolphins and a variety of bird species. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Nirmaljhara Waterfall, a picturesque waterfall surrounded by lush greenery. In the evening, head back to Puri and relax at the beach.

  3. Day 3: Konark Sun Temple
    30 minutes (20 miles) from Puri Beach

    On your last day, visit the magnificent Konark Sun Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This 13th-century temple is dedicated to the Hindu sun god, Surya, and is known for its impressive architecture and intricate stone carvings. Spend the afternoon at Ramachandi Beach, located at the confluence of the Bay of Bengal and the Kusabhadra River. In the evening, catch the sunset at Light House Beach, where you can enjoy stunning views of the sea and the iconic lighthouse.

Make sure to try the local cuisine, especially the famous seafood dishes. You can also visit Raghurajpur, a heritage crafts village known for its Pattachitra paintings and stone carvings.
