4-Day Foodie Itinerary in Delhi, July 2023

  1. Day 1: Paranthe Wali Gali
    30 minutes (8.9 km) from Indira Gandhi International Airport

    Begin your day with a visit to Paranthe Wali Gali, a narrow street in Chandni Chowk known for its delicious stuffed paranthas. Choose from a variety of fillings like potato, cheese, and cauliflower and pair it with a glass of lassi. After breakfast, visit the iconic Red Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to learn about the history of Mughal India. In the afternoon, head to Jama Masjid, one of the largest mosques in India, and take a walk around the bustling bazaar. In the evening, end your day with a food tour of Old Delhi, sampling delicious street food like chaat, kebabs and kulfi.

  2. Day 2: Hauz Khas Village
    40 minutes (15.6 km) from Chandni Chowk

    Start your day with a cup of masala chai and some delicious paranthas at Hauz Khas Village. Spend the morning exploring the art galleries and boutique stores in the area. In the afternoon, visit Qutub Minar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and marvel at the impressive minaret. Take a stroll through the gardens and step back in time at the nearby Mehrauli Archaeological Park. In the evening, sample some of the city's best kebabs at Karim's and finish off with a visit to Gali Paranthe Wali for some piping hot jalebis.

  3. Day 3: Connaught Place
    30 minutes (9.1 km) from Hauz Khas Village

    Start your day with a steaming hot cup of filter coffee and a plate of idlis at Saravana Bhavan. Next, head to India Gate, a war memorial and iconic landmark in the city. Take a walk around the gardens and visit nearby attractions like Rashtrapati Bhavan and Parliament House. In the afternoon, visit the National Museum to learn about the art, history and culture of India. In the evening, head to Connaught Place and sample some of Delhi's famous street food like chole bhature, dahi bhalla and aloo tikki.

  4. Day 4: Chandni Chowk
    20 minutes (5.3 km) from Connaught Place

    Start your day with a visit to Khari Baoli, Asia's largest spice market, and marvel at the colourful spices and herbs on display. Next, head to the nearby Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib, a Sikh temple and historical landmark where Guru Tegh Bahadur was martyred. In the afternoon, take a rickshaw ride through the winding lanes of Chandni Chowk and sample some of the famous street food like kachori, samosas and jalebis. In the evening, head to the rooftop restaurant at Haveli Dharampura for a delicious dinner and stunning views of Old Delhi.

Recommendations

Don't miss out on the street food at Sarojini Nagar Market and Lajpat Nagar Market. If you have more time, take a day trip to Agra and visit the stunning Taj Mahal. To maximize your foodie experience, consider taking a cooking class to learn how to make some of the dishes yourself.
