Kedarnath Dham: 5-Day Cultural Immersion Itinerary in October 2023

  1. Day 1: Kedarnath Temple
    1-minute walk from Kedarnath Helipad

    Morning: Begin your pilgrimage at the revered Kedarnath Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. The temple is believed to have been built during the Pandavas' reign and is situated in a serene location surrounded by snow-capped Himalayan peaks.

    Afternoon: Head to the Gandhi Sarovar lake, located about 3 km from Kedarnath Temple. This glacial lake is named after Mahatma Gandhi, who visited this place in 1947. The lake is surrounded by stunning views of the Himalayas and is a perfect spot for a picnic.

    Evening: Attend the evening aarti at Kedarnath Temple, which takes place at 7 PM. This is a beautiful and spiritual experience that you should not miss.

  2. Day 2: Vasuki Tal Trek
    1-hour drive (8.5 km) from Kedarnath Temple

    Morning: Embark on a trek to Vasuki Tal, a high altitude lake located at an altitude of 4,150 meters. The trek is challenging but extremely rewarding, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

    Afternoon: Enjoy a packed lunch by the lake and take in the serene scenery.

    Evening: Return to Kedarnath and relax at your hotel for the evening.

  3. Day 3: Guptkashi and Tungnath Temple Trek
    1-hour drive (29 km) from Kedarnath Temple

    Morning: Visit Guptkashi, a charming town situated on the banks of the Mandakini river. Visit the ancient Vishwanath Temple and Ardhnarishwar Temple, which date back to the 8th century AD.

    Afternoon: Trek to Tungnath Temple, the highest Shiva temple in the world. The trek takes approximately 3 hours and is moderately challenging. The temple is located at an altitude of 3,680 meters and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

    Evening: Return to Guptkashi and explore the local market for some souvenirs.

  4. Day 4: Sonprayag and Gaurikund
    1-hour drive (20 km) from Kedarnath Temple

    Morning: Drive to Sonprayag, where the confluence of Basuki and Mandakini rivers takes place. This scenic spot is also the starting point of the trek to Kedarnath.

    Afternoon: Visit Gaurikund, a holy town situated at an altitude of 1,982 meters. The town is named after Goddess Parvati and is believed to be the place where Lord Shiva accepted her as his wife.

    Evening: Relax at your hotel in Gaurikund and enjoy some local cuisine.

  5. Day 5: Triyuginarayan Temple
    1-hour drive (23 km) from Gaurikund

    Morning: Visit the ancient Triyuginarayan Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple is believed to be the place where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati got married.

    Afternoon: Take a dip in the natural hot water spring nearby, which is believed to have medicinal properties.

    Evening: Return to Kedarnath for your onward journey.

Recommendations:

If you have some extra time, you can visit the nearby town of Ukhimath, which is famous for its Omkareshwar Temple. You can also take a day trip to the beautiful town of Rudraprayag, which is situated at the confluence of Mandakini and Alaknanda rivers.

To maximize your fun, make sure to carry comfortable trekking shoes, warm clothes, and rain gear. Also, try some of the local delicacies like Kachmauli, Bal Mithai, and Singori.
