7-Day Itinerary for Shillong, Meghalaya, Cherapunji in November 2023

  1. Day 1: Shillong Peak
    20 minutes (5.2 miles) from Shillong

    In the morning, take a scenic drive up to the Shillong Peak for breathtaking views of the city and surrounding hills. In the afternoon, explore the nearby Elephant Falls and learn about the history and culture of the Khasi tribe at the Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Khasi meal at one of the local restaurants.

  2. Day 2: Mawlynnong Village
    2 hours (54 miles) from Shillong

    Start your day early and head to Mawlynnong, the cleanest village in Asia. Explore the village, learn about the local culture, and take a walk on the Living Root Bridge. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Dawki River and take a boat ride on the crystal-clear water. Enjoy a delicious lunch at one of the local restaurants by the river, and in the evening, drive back to Shillong.

  3. Day 3: Cherrapunji
    2 hours 20 minutes (37 miles) from Shillong

    Head to Cherrapunji, the wettest place on earth, in the morning. Visit the Nohkalikai Falls, Seven Sisters Falls, and the Mawsmai Cave. In the afternoon, visit the Eco Park and take a walk on the Double Decker Living Root Bridge. Enjoy the scenic drive back to Shillong in the evening.

  4. Day 4: Laitlum Canyons
    1 hour (10 miles) from Shillong

    Start your day early and head to the Laitlum Canyons for a beautiful sunrise view. Take a hike down to the valley and enjoy the stunning scenery. In the afternoon, visit the Shnongpdeng beach and try your hand at kayaking or zip-lining. End the day with a delicious barbecue dinner by the river.

  5. Day 5: Shillong Golf Course
    30 minutes (6.4 miles) from Shillong

    In the morning, visit the Shillong Golf Course, one of the oldest golf courses in India. Take a walk around the golf course and enjoy the beautiful scenery.   6. Day 6: Elephant Falls
    30 minutes (7.7 miles) from Shillong

    In the morning, visit the Elephant Falls and take a dip in the natural pool. In the afternoon, visit the Shillong Cathedral and the Air Force Museum. Enjoy a lovely dinner at one of the local restaurants in the evening.

  7. Day 7: Mawphlang Sacred Forest
    1 hour (15 miles) from Shillong

    Visit the Mawphlang Sacred Forest in the morning and learn about the traditional beliefs and rituals of the Khasi tribe. In the afternoon, visit the David Scott Trail and take a hike through the beautiful forest. End your day with a lovely dinner and some drinks at one of the local bars in Shillong.

Recommendations

Don't miss out on the local street food in Shillong, especially the Jadoh (rice cooked with pork or chicken) and momos (dumplings). If you have time, take a day trip to the Mawsynram, the rainiest place on earth, and explore the nearby caves and waterfalls. Make sure to also visit the Umiam Lake and take a boat ride on the tranquil water.
