3-Day Itinerary for Wayanadu in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Edakkal Caves
    45 minutes (13.4 miles) from Kalpetta

    Start your day with a visit to the Edakkal Caves, which are famous for their prehistoric rock carvings and paintings. The cave is situated on top of Ambukuthi Mala and requires a moderate level of fitness to climb the stairs leading to it. Spend the morning exploring the caves and admiring the views of the surrounding hills. For lunch, head to Jubilee Restaurant in Kalpetta for some delicious Kerala cuisine. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Wayanad Heritage Museum to learn about the history and culture of the region. In the evening, take a leisurely walk through the Banasura Sagar Dam and enjoy the stunning scenery.

  2. Day 2: Chembra Peak
    1 hour 20 minutes (20.7 miles) from Kalpetta

    Start your day early and embark on a trek to Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad. The trek is relatively difficult and takes around 4-5 hours to complete, but the views from the top are worth it. After descending from the peak, head to Pookode Lake for a picnic lunch and enjoy the scenic surroundings. In the afternoon, visit the Thirunelli Temple, an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. In the evening, head back to Kalpetta and explore the local markets for some souvenirs.

  3. Day 3: Soochipara Falls
    1 hour 10 minutes (22.5 miles) from Kalpetta

    Begin your day with a visit to the Soochipara Falls, a picturesque waterfall located in the midst of a dense forest. Enjoy a refreshing dip in the pool at the base of the falls and take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. For lunch, head to the Bamboo Mess in Vythiri for some authentic Kerala cuisine. After lunch, visit the Banasura Hill Resort and take a guided tour of the organic farm and tea plantations. In the evening, head back to Kalpetta and relax at your hotel.

Recommendations

If you have time, consider visiting the Kuruva Island, a beautiful uninhabited island located in the middle of the Kabini River. You can also take a day trip to the nearby Nagarhole National Park to see some wildlife. To maximize your fun, book a jeep safari or a kayaking adventure for a unique Wayanad experience.
