Two-Day Itinerary for Ujjain in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Mahakaleshwar Temple
    10 minutes (2.3 km) from Ujjain Junction railway station

    Begin your day by visiting the Mahakaleshwar Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas in India. This ancient temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is known for its unique Bhasma Aarti, which takes place daily at 4:00 AM. After the morning aarti, you can explore the temple complex and witness the various rituals and ceremonies that take place throughout the day. In the afternoon, head to the Ram Ghat to take a dip in the holy Shipra River. In the evening, attend the Sandhya Aarti at the Kal Bhairav Temple, located just a few minutes away.

  2. Day 2: Kaliadeh Palace and Observatory
    25 minutes (8.6 km) from Mahakaleshwar Temple

    Start your day by visiting the Kaliadeh Palace, located on the banks of the Shipra River. This beautiful palace was built by the Scindias in the 18th century and offers stunning views of the river and the surrounding hills. After exploring the palace, head to the nearby Jantar Mantar Observatory, which was built in the 17th century by Maharaja Jai Singh II. The observatory features a collection of nineteen astronomical instruments and is a must-visit for anyone interested in astronomy. In the evening, head back to the Mahakaleshwar Temple to witness the Bhasma Aarti once again.
