4-Day Itinerary for Pondicherry

  1. Day 1: Sri Aurobindo Ashram
    10 minutes (3.2 km) from Pondicherry Airport

    In the morning, visit Sri Aurobindo Ashram which is a spiritual community established by Sri Aurobindo and Mirra Alfassa in the early 20th century. Visitors can witness the meditation and yoga sessions in the peaceful environment. In the afternoon, head to the Pondicherry Museum, which has a collection of rare bronze and stone sculptures from the Pallava and Chola dynasties, as well as artefacts from French colonial times. In the evening, stroll along the Promenade Beach and enjoy the beautiful sunset view.

  2. Day 2: Auroville
    20 minutes (9.3 km) from Sri Aurobindo Ashram

    Auroville is an experimental township founded in 1968 by Mirra Alfassa. Spend your morning in Auroville, where you can explore the Matrimandir, a golden dome dedicated to the Universal Mother, and learn about sustainable living practices. In the afternoon, visit the Botanical Garden, which has a wide variety of plants and trees, and is home to an old aquarium and a musical fountain.   3. Day 3: Gingee Fort

    In the morning, head to the Chunnambar Boat House, which is the starting point for a boat ride to Paradise Beach. The beach is located on an island and can only be accessed by boat. Spend your morning relaxing on the beach or trying out water sports activities such as jet skiing and banana boat rides. In the afternoon, visit the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which is a 100-year-old neo-gothic church. In the evening, spend some time shopping at the Goubert Market, which has a variety of handicrafts, clothing, and jewellery on offer.

If you have extra time, you can visit the Ousteri Lake, which is a birdwatcher's paradise, or take a temple tour to visit the unique temples in and around Pondicherry. You can also consider a day trip to Mahabalipuram, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site and has many ancient temples and rock carvings.
