Nature Lover's 2-Day Itinerary in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Griffith Observatory
25 minutes (10 miles) from Downtown LA

In the morning, head up to the Griffith Observatory, one of LA's most iconic landmarks, to enjoy stunning panoramic views of the city and the Hollywood Sign. Take a guided tour of the observatory's exhibits and enjoy the planetarium show. Spend your afternoon hiking in Griffith Park, one of the largest urban parks in the US. The park offers several trails of varying difficulty levels, such as the popular Griffith Observatory Trail that leads to the observatory. In the evening, visit the Los Angeles Zoo, which is located inside the park, to see over 1,400 animals from around the world in a lush and natural setting.

  2. Day 2: Joshua Tree National Park
2 hours 30 minutes (133 miles) from Downtown LA

On day two, head out east to Joshua Tree National Park, a desert wilderness that offers some of the most unique and stunning landscapes in California. Spend the morning hiking one of the park's many trails, such as the Hidden Valley Trail or the Barker Dam Trail, to explore the park's rock formations, canyons, and oases. In the afternoon, visit the park's visitor center to learn more about Joshua Tree's natural and cultural history, and take a scenic drive through the park's main roads to see the iconic Joshua trees and other desert flora and fauna. End your day watching the sunset at Keys View, a viewpoint that offers panoramic views of the Coachella Valley and the San Andreas Fault.

Recommendations
