Two Days in Shimoga - July 2023

  1. Day 1: Jog Falls
    1 hour 30 minutes (42.8 miles) from Shimoga city center

    Located on the Sharavathi River, Jog Falls is the second-highest plunge waterfall in India. To avoid the crowds, visit early in the morning. Take a boat ride to the base of the falls and feel the mist on your face. Afternoon, visit the nearby Linganamakki Dam and reservoir for breathtaking views. In the evening, take a stroll in the nearby Sharavathi Wildlife Sanctuary and spot some rare species such as the Indian giant squirrel, Malabar pied hornbill and leopard.

  2. Day 2: Tyavarekoppa Lion and Tiger Reserve
    30 minutes (14.5 miles) from Shimoga city center

    Spend your morning admiring the majestic big cats of Tyavarekoppa Lion and Tiger Reserve. Take a guided safari tour to see tigers, lions, leopards, and hyenas in their natural habitat. Afternoon, head to the nearby Gajanur Dam and explore the beautiful surroundings. In the evening, visit the Kote Kere Lake and enjoy a sunset boat ride with stunning views of the mountains.

Don't miss the stunning Sakrebailu Elephant Camp near Shimoga. You can watch elephants being bathed, fed, and trained. If you have more time, head to the nearby Agumbe Rainforest Research Station, where you can spot rare species such as the king cobra, Indian rock python, and flying lizard.
