7-Day Itinerary for Solo Outdoor Travel, Nature Relaxation, and Remote Working

  1. Day 1: Hike in Big Sur
    2 hours 30 minutes (150 miles) from San Francisco

    Start your day early with a hike at the Pfieffer Big Sur State Park. Afternoon, visit the Esalen Institute for a relaxing soak in their hot springs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. End your day with a sunset dinner at Nepenthe.

  2. Day 2: Surfing in Santa Cruz
    1 hour (44 miles) from Big Sur

    Drive south along the coast to Santa Cruz, and take surfing lessons at the famous Pleasure Point. Have lunch at the Picnic Basket, then visit the Natural Bridges State Beach to see the monarch butterfly migration. Check-in at your hotel in Santa Cruz and work remotely in the evening.

  3. Day 3: Whale Watching in Monterey
    45 minutes (33 miles) from Santa Cruz

    Take a whale watching tour in the Monterey Bay. Afternoon, visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Cannery Row. In the evening, relax and watch the sunset at Asilomar State Beach.

    Enjoy a morning kayak tour in the Morro Bay National Estuary. Have lunch at Taco Temple, then hike the Morro Bay State Park trails. In the evening, have dinner at Windows on the Water and watch the sunset over Morro Rock.

  7. Day 7: Beach Day in Malibu
    4 hours (200 miles) from Morro Bay

    Drive back north along the Pacific Coast Highway to Malibu, and spend the day sunbathing, swimming, and surfing at Zuma Beach. Have lunch at Malibu Farm Pier Cafe, then visit the Getty Villa to explore ancient Roman and Greek art and architecture. End your trip with a sunset drive back to Los Angeles.

Recommendations:

If you have more time, consider visiting Yosemite National Park or Joshua Tree National Park. You can also take a day trip to Napa Valley or Lake Tahoe. To maximize your fun, pack light, bring a portable charger, and plan your activities around sunrise and sunset for the best lighting and views.
