Relaxing 4-Day Itinerary in Madikeri, December 2023

  1. Day 1: Abbey Falls
    5 minutes (1.2 km) from Raja's Seat

    Morning: Start the day with a refreshing walk around the calm and serene surroundings of the Abbey falls. The waterfalls are located amidst sprawling coffee plantations and are a sight to behold. The lush greenery all around the place is perfect for a nature walk.
    Afternoon: Enjoy a peaceful lunch at the nearby eateries like the Coffee Blossoms or the Black Pepper. The restaurants offer delicious South Indian food and are reasonably priced.
    Evening: Head back to Raja's Seat to catch a glorious sunset and witness the stunning view of the valley and the hills surrounding it. The Raja's Seat is a historical garden built by the kings of Kodagu.

  2. Day 2: Omkareshwara Temple
    14 minutes (3.5 km) from Raja's Seat

    Morning: Start your day with a visit to the Omkareshwara Temple, a 19th century Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple architecture is an amalgamation of Gothic and Islamic styles and is a treat to the eyes.
    Afternoon: Head to the Coorg Cuisine for lunch, which offers a variety of authentic local delicacies. Don't forget to try their famous Pandi Curry.
    Evening: Take a stroll around the Madikeri Fort and witness the beautiful architecture of the place. The fort is built of red bricks and has two life-size elephant statues at the entrance.

  3. Day 3: Tadiyandamol Peak
    40 minutes (16.5 km) from Madikeri Fort

    Morning: Start your day early and head to the Tadiyandamol Peak which is the highest peak in Coorg. The trek to the top is a bit challenging but the view from the top is breathtaking.
    Afternoon: Have lunch at the nearby eateries like the Taste of Coorg or The Falls View.
    Evening: Relax and unwind at the Honey Valley estate where you can indulge in various activities like bird-watching, nature walks and coffee plantation tours.

  4. Day 4: Dubare Elephant Camp
    1 hour 5 minutes (32.1 km) from Honey Valley estate

    Morning: Visit the Dubare Elephant Camp and get up close and personal with the jumbos. You can feed them, give them a bath and even ride them.
    Afternoon: Head to the nearby Dubare Reserve Forest for a nature walk and bird-watching.
    Evening: End your trip with a visit to the Kaveri Nisargadhama, which is an island formed by river Kaveri. You can indulge in activities like boating, elephant rides and even shop for souvenirs.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, you can visit the Bylakuppe, a Tibetan refugee settlement and visit the Golden Temple, which is a beautiful Buddhist monastery. You can also go for a day trip to the Nagarhole National Park, which is home to various flora and fauna. To maximize your fun, book a private cab for your travels.
