Family-Friendly 3-Day Itinerary from Madurai to Wayanad in June 2023

If you're looking for a family-friendly getaway, Wayanad is an excellent choice. This three-day itinerary includes some of the best attractions in the area and takes you on a memorable journey from Madurai to Wayanad.

  1. Day 1: Madurai to Wayanad (4 hours 30 minutes, 195 km)
    Depart from Madurai early in the morning and head towards Wayanad

    In the morning, visit the Edakkal Caves, a prehistoric site that features ancient rock art. After a picnic lunch, head to the Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earthen dam in India. Take a boat ride to appreciate the dam from a different angle. In the evening, visit the Pookode Lake, a scenic freshwater lake that offers boat rides.

  2. Day 2: Wayanad
    Explore Wayanad

    Start your day at the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, a protected area that is home to tigers, elephants, leopards, and other animals. After a morning safari, visit the Soochipara Waterfalls, a three-tiered waterfall that is perfect for swimming. In the afternoon, head to the Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad. The trek to the top takes around 3 hours, but the panoramic views are worth it. In the evening, head to the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary for another safari experience.

  3. Day 3: Wayanad to Madurai (4 hours 30 minutes, 195 km)
    Depart from Wayanad and head back to Madurai

    In the morning, visit the Thirunelli Temple, an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. After that, head to the Wayanad Heritage Museum, which has exhibits on the history and culture of the region. In the afternoon, visit the Kuruvadweep, a group of small islands that are perfect for a picnic. In the evening, drive back to Madurai.

If you have time, consider visiting the Jain Temple in Sulthan Bathery, which has beautiful carvings and sculptures.
