4-Day Nature Itinerary for Hampi in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Anjaneya Hill
    20 minutes (3.2 miles) from Hampi Bazaar

    Start your day by trekking up Anjaneya Hill to witness the sunrise over Hampi. The hill is named after Lord Hanuman, the monkey god, and is believed to be the birthplace of Hanuman. The hike takes around 45-60 minutes, and the trail is surrounded by lush greenery and provides stunning views of the city. After the hike, relax and enjoy a picnic breakfast at the top. Spend the afternoon exploring the surrounding forests and discovering the various flora and fauna. End the day by witnessing the sunset over Hampi from the hill.

  2. Day 2: Sanapur Lake
    1 hour (15 miles) from Anjaneya Hill

    Head to Sanapur Lake, a serene spot surrounded by rocky hills. Spend the morning kayaking or swimming in the crystal clear waters. After lunch, drive down to the nearby Tungabhadra River, and take a coracle ride. These circular boats are made of bamboo and are used by locals to cross the river.   3. Day 3: Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary
    1 hour 30 minutes (30 miles) from Sanapur Lake

    Start your day early and drive to the Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary to witness wildlife in their natural habitat. The sanctuary is home to sloth bears, leopards, hyenas, and many other animals. Visitors can take a guided jeep tour through the sanctuary and spot these animals in their natural surroundings. After lunch, visit the nearby Hampi University and Museum to learn more about the rich history and culture of Hampi. End the day by witnessing the sunset over the Tungabhadra River from the nearby hills.

  4. Day 4: Hampi Heritage Sites
    30 minutes (11 miles) from Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary

    Start your day by exploring the magnificent temples and ruins of Hampi, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Begin with the Virupaksha Temple, the main center of pilgrimage at Hampi, and then head to the Hemakuta Hill temples. After lunch, explore the Vittala Temple, famous for its intricate stone chariot, and the nearby King's Balance and Lotus Mahal. End the day by visiting the Elephant Stables and the Queen's Bath.
