7-Day Itinerary for Alaska Adventure in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Anchorage
    10 minutes (4.3 miles) from Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport

    Start your adventure in the heart of Alaska, Anchorage. Visit the Anchorage Museum, watch the polar bears at the Alaska Zoo, and go on a nature walk at Kincaid Park.

  2. Day 2: Seward
    2 hours 50 minutes (126 miles) from Anchorage

    Head south to Seward and take a scenic drive along Seward Highway. Go sea kayaking, hike the Exit Glacier, and visit the Alaska SeaLife Center.

  3. Day 3: Homer
    3 hours 30 minutes (165 miles) from Seward

    Drive further south to Homer, the "Halibut Capital of the World". Take a boat tour to see whales and sea otters, visit the Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center, and go fishing for halibut.

  4. Day 4: Denali National Park
    5 hours 30 minutes (250 miles) from Homer

    Travel to Denali National Park and enjoy a scenic drive through the Alaska Range. Go on a wildlife tour to spot grizzly bears, moose, and caribou, and hike the Savage River Loop Trail.

  5. Day 5: Fairbanks
    2 hours 30 minutes (125 miles) from Denali National Park

    Drive north to Fairbanks, the "Golden Heart of Alaska". Visit the Museum of the North, take a riverboat tour, and go dog sledding with the Alaskan huskies.

  6. Day 6: Arctic Circle
    12 hours (250 miles) roundtrip from Fairbanks

    Take a day trip to the Arctic Circle and drive through the wilderness of Alaska. Visit the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, cross the Yukon River, and see the Northern Lights if you're lucky.

  7. Day 7: Anchorage
    6 hours 30 minutes (360 miles) from Fairbanks

    Head back to Anchorage and explore the city's coastal trails, parks, and wildlife. Visit the Alaska Native Heritage Center and enjoy a farewell dinner at one of Anchorage's top restaurants.

Recommendations

Consider taking a day trip to the Kenai Fjords National Park from Seward to see the glaciers up-close. You can also visit the Chena Hot Springs Resort from Fairbanks to relax in the natural hot springs.
