2-Day Nature Itinerary in Shillong, September 2023

  1. Day 1: Elephant Falls
    20 minutes (8.2 km) from Shillong City Centre

    Start your day with a visit to the stunning Elephant Falls, located just a short drive from the city centre. The falls are a beautiful sight to behold, with water cascading down a series of rocky steps surrounded by lush greenery. Spend your morning admiring the falls and exploring the surrounding area.

    For the afternoon, head to the Umiam Lake. This man-made lake is a popular spot for water sports, such as kayaking and boating. Alternatively, you can simply relax by the lake and take in the stunning views.

    End your day at the Don Bosco Museum, a fascinating museum showcasing the culture and history of the North East region of India. The museum has several floors filled with exhibits, including traditional clothing, handicrafts, and musical instruments.

Other local attractions worth considering include the Laitlum Canyons, a beautiful viewpoint overlooking the valley and the Nohkalikai Falls, one of the tallest waterfalls in India. For a day trip, consider visiting Cherrapunji, known as the "wettest place on earth", or Dawki, a small town known for its crystal clear water.
