Bali on a Shoestring Budget: 4-Day Itinerary in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Ubud
    1 hour 15 minutes (20.6 miles) from Ngurah Rai International Airport

    Start your morning with a visit to the Ubud Monkey Forest, home to over 700 Balinese long-tailed monkeys. Afterwards, head to the Saraswati Temple to admire its stunning lotus pond and intricate carvings. For lunch, try the local specialty of babi guling (roast suckling pig) at Ibu Oka. In the afternoon, explore the traditional market for souvenirs and then head to the beautiful Tegallalang Rice Terrace for some great photo opportunities. In the evening, catch a traditional Balinese dance performance at the Ubud Palace.

  2. Day 2: Seminyak
    1 hour 20 minutes (32.9 miles) from Ubud

    Spend your morning lounging on the beach and taking a dip in the ocean at Double Six Beach. For lunch, head to Warung Nia for some delicious and affordable Indonesian cuisine. In the afternoon, indulge in some retail therapy at the Seminyak Square Shopping Mall. Catch the sunset at the famous Potato Head Beach Club and enjoy a drink or two. For dinner, try the seafood barbecue at Jimbaran Beach.

  3. Day 3: Nusa Penida
    1 hour 20 minutes (18.5 miles) from Sanur Beach

    Take an early morning boat ride to Nusa Penida island to see the beautiful Kelingking Beach and its iconic T-Rex shaped limestone cliff. Spend the afternoon swimming in the crystal-clear waters of Angel's Billabong and then head to Broken Beach for the stunning views. In the evening, catch your return boat ride back to Sanur Beach and have dinner at Warung Mak Beng for some delicious fried fish.

  4. Day 4: Denpasar
    30 minutes (10.7 miles) from Ubud

    Start your morning with a visit to the Bajra Sandhi Monument to learn about Bali's history and struggle for independence. Then head to the Bali Museum to see its impressive collection of Balinese art and artefacts. For lunch, try the famous crispy duck at Bebek Bengil in Ubud. In the afternoon, explore the Pura Jagatnatha Temple and the nearby Pasar Badung market. End your night with a visit to the Kuta Beach nightlife and enjoy some drinks with the locals.

Recommendations

Make sure to visit the Tirta Empul Temple and its holy spring water for a traditional Balinese purification ritual. Take a day trip to the nearby island of Lembongan for some excellent snorkelling and diving spots. To save on transportation costs, consider renting a scooter or using ride-sharing apps like GO-JEK or Grab.
