Exploring Waterfalls on the Way to Tofino

1. 7:00AM: Nanaimo
   Start your day with a visit to the famous harbour city of Nanaimo – Western Canada's third largest island – and home to stunning waterfalls that cascade down cliffs to the ocean's edge. 2. 10:00AM: Little Qualicum Falls
   Located in MacMillan Provincial Park, Little Qualicum Falls is a spectacular natural phenomenon. The falls drop into small grottos in the middle of the forest, creating a peaceful oasis of tranquility amidst the lush flora and fauna. The park has easy walking trails, playgrounds, picnic areas and parking facilities.

3. 12:00PM: Englishman River Falls
   A short walk from the parking lot will take you to the first of the two falls, and a hike of less than a kilometre will lead you to the second. This impressive waterfall is surrounded by old-growth Douglas fir trees, and a loop trail offers stunning views of the canyon vistas and the neighboring forest. Picnic areas and swimming spots are also available here.

4. 2:00PM: Sombrio Beach
   Located on the wild west coast of Vancouver Island, Sombrio Beach is a scenic spot with soft sand, expansive vistas, and crystal-clear waters. There are several hiking trails leading to the beach, which takes about 20-25 minutes to walk to from the parking area. The area is famous for its surf, as well as its natural beauty, solitude, and breathtaking sunsets.

This 1-day itinerary offers an unforgettable experience for nature lovers who appreciate spectacular waterfalls and secluded beaches. Still, there is plenty more to see and do on Vancouver Island, and we recommend extending your trip if possible. Suggested additions might include a visit to Ucluelet or the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. If you only have half a day in total, we suggest just visiting Nanaimo and Little Qualicum Falls.
