El Peñol is a granite rock formation located at the entrance of the beautiful Guatapé Lake. Visitors can climb 740 steps to reach the top of El Peñol and admire the stunning view of the lake and its surroundings. After that, head to the colorful town of Guatapé, famous for its vibrant zocalos (painted tile motifs) decorating many buildings.
Comuna 13 is a neighborhood that has transformed into a vibrant outdoor art gallery. This Graffiti Tour shows the transformation of the neighborhood and the voices of locals through art. Visitors will learn about the cultural and social significance of the street art while strolling through the streets.
Casa Museo Pedro Nel Gómez is the former house and workshop of the artist Pedro Nel Gómez. Now, it operates as a museum that showcases the modernist art and style of Gómez. Afterward, head to the Medellin Botanical Garden. This nature reserve houses a large variety of plants, including orchids and palm trees, as well as a butterfly house and a lake.
Parque Arví is a nature reserve situated in the mountains of Medellin. Here, visitors can practice outdoor activities such as ziplining, hiking or horse-riding. To reach the park, take the Medellin Cable Car. This mode of transportation offers a unique view of the surrounding hills and allows visitors to experience the city from a different perspective.
If you have more time, you can visit other attractions of Medellin such as the Museum of Antioquia, Planetario de Medellin or the Jardín Botánico de Medellin. If you have less time, consider eliminating the Botanical Garden and Planetary from the itinerary as they are located in the same place as Casa Museo Pedro Nel Gómez. Alternatively, you can also skip the Peñol and Guatapé day trip or replace it with a visit to the Coffee Triangle region.
