Start your cultural immersion journey at the Catalina Island Museum where you will learn about the island's rich history and art. Then, head to the Wrigley Memorial & Botanic Garden to explore its beautiful garden, and learn about William Wrigley Jr., a famous entrepreneur who built his fortune on the island.
Spend the day exploring the historic Avalon Theatre, where you can catch a classic movie or concert. Next, head to Tuna Club of Avalon, the oldest fishing club in America, to learn about its fascinating history. End the day at Catalina Island Pottery and Tile where you can see unique hand-crafted tile work from the early 1920s.
Begin your day with a tour of the Catalina Island Casino, which is not actually a gambling establishment, but a stunning art deco building that houses a museum and ballroom. Then, explore the many art galleries throughout the city which feature a variety of works from local and international artists.
Start your day with a guided Monumental Milestones Walking Tour, where you will discover Avalon's lesser-known landmarks such as the oldest church on the island and a giant Catalina tile mosaic. In the afternoon, take an Eco Tour to explore the island's picturesque nature and appreciate its conservation efforts.
On your final day, take it easy at the Descanso Beach Club where you can relax on the beach or try out some water sports such as kayaking and paddleboarding. End your trip with a Food Tour that will take you to some of the best local eateries and give you a taste of Avalon's unique cuisine.
Most of the cultural points of interest are located within walking distance from each other, so it's easy to get around by foot. But, if you need to travel farther distances, you can rent a golf cart, take a taxi, or hop on a shuttle.
To get to Avalon, you can take a ferry from Long Beach or San Pedro. The ferry ride takes about an hour and a half, and prices start at $75 round-trip.
If you have more time, consider taking a glass-bottom boat tour, scuba diving or snorkeling in the crystal clear waters of the island, or even camping at one of the campgrounds. On the other hand, if you have less time, consider skipping the food tour or eco tour, as they are the most time-consuming activities on the itinerary.
Avalon does not have its airport. The closest airport is the Long Beach Airport, which is about 30 miles away from Avalon, and its airport code is LGB. The airport has multiple options for transportation to Avalon, including taxis, shuttles, or renting a car.
