Most attractions in Avalon are within walking distance, but if you need to travel further, you can rent a golf cart or take the Catalina Island Conservancy shuttle. Golf cart rentals start at $50 for two hours, and shuttle tickets cost $2 per ride. If you want to explore the island outside of Avalon, you can take the Discovery Tour bus for $85 per person.
If you have more time, consider taking a hike to the stunning Mount Ada or exploring the island's other charming town of Two Harbors. For shorter stays, you may want to skip one of the activities listed above or combine a few into a single day. Don't forget to bring comfortable shoes, sunscreen, and a camera to capture the unforgettable views.
Catalina Island does not have an airport. The closest airports are Long Beach Airport (LGB) and John Wayne Airport (SNA), both within 50 miles of Avalon. From there, you can take a ferry from the mainland to the island. The Catalina Express is the most popular option and departs from several locations, including Long Beach and Dana Point.
