Start your day with a visit to Namgyal Tsemo Gompa, a beautiful Buddhist temple that offers panoramic views of the city and surrounding mountains. This ancient monastery houses a three-story gold statue of Maitreya Buddha and historic wall paintings that depict the teachings of Buddha.
Next on our list is Leh Palace, a former royal palace that overlooks the city. Built-in the 17th century, this nine-story palace provides insight into the history and culture of the region. Don't miss the collection of jewelry, ceremonial dresses, and crown of Ladakhi kings.
It's time for lunch, and The Tibetan Kitchen in the heart of Leh is the perfect spot for some delicious, authentic Tibetan dishes. Try their momos (steamed dumplings) with spicy tomato chutney, thukpa (noodle soup), and butter tea.
After lunch, head to one of the most peaceful places in Ladak, Shanti Stupa. Located on a hilltop, this Buddhist white-domed stupa is a symbol of peace, unity, and prosperity. The view of the Leh city and snow-capped Himalayan ranges from here is awe-inspiring.
If you have more time, you can explore some other monasteries and sites like the Hemis Monastery, Shey Palace, Thiksey Monastery, and Pangong Lake. However, if you have less time, you can drop one or two places from the list. Do carry water, sunglasses, and sunscreen with you as Ladak is a high-altitude desert where the sun is intense. Some places may require you to remove your shoes, so wear comfortable and easy-to-remove shoes.
