Climb the Chembra Peak, the highest hill in Wayanadu which offers a spectacular view of the nearby hills and valleys. The trekking takes approximately three hours to reach the top. At the peak, there is a heart-shaped lake and a treehouse campsite. Make sure to get the necessary permits from the forest department.
Visit the Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earth dam in India and the second-largest in Asia. At the dam, enjoy activities such as boating, kayaking, and speed boating or hiking at the surrounding forests and hills. The dam area is usually crowded, so it's better to come early in the morning before it opens at 9 am.
Explore the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, which houses different species of mammals, reptiles, and birds. Enjoy the jeep safari ride through the dense forest where you can spot herds of elephants, sloth bears, deer, and giant squirrels. The sanctuary is closed on all holidays and on Sundays, so plan your visit accordingly.
If you have more time, you can include visits to other attractions such as Soochippara and Meenmutty waterfalls. For food, you can try the local delicacies such as Malabar biryani, Kallummakkaya Ularthiyathu, and payasam at the local eateries in Kalpetta town. If you have less time, you can remove Banasura Sagar Dam from the itinerary and explore more of Wayanadu's nature and wildlife attractions.
