Start the day with a scenic drive to the Pothamedu Viewpoint. Enjoy the stunning views of sunrise or sunset over the beautiful valley. And then, head to the Mattupetty Dam, enjoy a boat ride with serene views of water and the tea gardens. You can also visit the Mattupetty Indo-Swiss Farm to learn about the breeding of different cattle breeds and farm methods.
Visit Periyar National Park, home to a variety of endangered species and hundreds of bird species. Take a guided jungle trek and maybe, encounter wild elephants, gaurs, and sambar deer. Boating in the Periyar lake will give you the best bet of seeing some wildlife, apart from enjoying the picturesque setting.
End the trip with a visit to a spice garden and vineyard in Thekkady. Discover the secrets of various spices and see how they grow. Get a whiff of the aromatic spices and maybe, take some back home. Visit the vineyard, learn about the winemaking process, and enjoy wine tasting (juice for kids) and scenic views.
If you have more time, consider visiting the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary or taking a jeep safari at Gavi. For those interested in culture, visit the Green Park Spices and Ayurvedic Plantation or Kathakali Centre to learn about traditional art forms. If you have less time, skip the vineyard visit and spend more time exploring the Periyar National Park.
