Let’s get out of the city and head to one of the most picturesque valleys of Bhutan - Phobjikha! Start your day with a visit to the Dochula Pass and marvel at the panoramic views of the Bhutanese mountainscape. Then, proceed to the ancient Punakha Dzong - the winter residence of Bhutan’s spiritual leader. Today, we suggest discovering the cultural heartland of Bhutan - Bumthang! Start with Jakar Dzong followed by an enlightening visit to the Jakar Lhakhang, the soul of Bumthang. Next, drive to the Swiss Farm area for lunch, then admire the architecture of the historical mansion, the Wangdichholing Palace. Enjoy the evening by walking around the town of Jakar.
End your journey in Paro where you can explore some cultural landmarks such as the Paro Dzong, or hike toward the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery perched 900 meters above Paro valley. Finally, indulge in some traditional shopping at Paro Craft Market or simply relax at a local farmhouse and enjoy the peaceful countryside.
If you have more time, we suggest visiting the central valley of Trongsa to explore the Trongsa Dzong, considered the most impressive Dzong fortress in Bhutan. For those with lesser time, you can consider skipping a night at Phobjikha and heading straight to Bumthang.
