Begin your trip by exploring the picturesque Paro Valley, located in Bhutan's western region. Visit the Tiger's Nest Monastery, one of the country's most iconic landmarks. It is located on a cliff and offers stunning views of the surrounding area. The hike up to the monastery takes approximately 2-3 hours, but the scenery will make it more than worth it.
On this day, explore Bhutan's ancient capital, Punakha. Visit Punakha Dzong, which serves as both a religious center and administrative headquarters in the region. Afterward, head to the nearby Chimi Lhakhang temple. This temple is devoted to the "divine madman," Lama Drukpa Kunley, and is famous for its fertility blessings.
Spend the day in Bhutan's capital city, Thimphu. Start off with a visit to the Buddha Dordenma Statue, which is one of the largest Buddha statues in the world. Afterward, explore the city's markets, where you can find a variety of souvenirs, handicrafts, and Bhutanese food. Finally, visit the National Memorial Chorten, built in honor of the third king of Bhutan.
On your last day, take a scenic drive to Phobjikha Valley, located in central Bhutan. It is a protected area for the Black-necked Crane Reserve, which is an endangered species. The valley is also known for its stunning landscapes, traditional farmhouses, and cultural experiences. End your trip with a visit to a local farmhouse to try some traditional Bhutanese food.
If you have more time, consider adding a visit to the Haa Valley or the Bumthang region. If you have less time, you can skip Punakha altogether and instead spend more time in Thimphu or Paro Valley.
