A Day Exploring the North East of India

8:00AM: Kamakhya Temple

Start your day at the enchanting Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati. This ancient Hindu temple is dedicated to the goddess Kamakhya, and it offers breathtaking views of the Brahmaputra River. 10:30AM: Kaziranga National Park

Head to the world-famous Kaziranga National Park, home to the endangered one-horned rhinoceros and many other wildlife species. Take a jeep safari through the park and spot rhinos, tigers, elephants, and various bird species in their natural habitat. The park is open from November to April, and the safari lasts around 3 hours. Entry fees start at INR 1,000 per person.

2:00PM: Majuli Island

Take a scenic drive to the river island of Majuli, the largest river island in the world. Majuli is known for its serene beauty, ancient monasteries, and unique culture. Visit the famous Kamalabari Satra monastery and interact with the local monks. Enjoy a traditional Assamese lunch at one of the local restaurants. The ferry ride to Majuli takes around 1.5 hours, and you can spend 3-4 hours exploring the island.

6:00PM: Shillong Peak

Make your way to Shillong Peak, the highest point in Shillong, and enjoy panoramic views of the city and the surrounding hills. The peak is located around 10 kilometers from the city center and offers a breathtaking sunset view. Drive or hike up to the peak, and spend some time taking in the natural beauty of the area. Entry to the peak is free, and you can spend around 1-2 hours here.

8:00PM: Police Bazar

End your day with a visit to Police Bazar in Shillong, the heart of the city's shopping and entertainment scene. Explore the bustling market, filled with shops selling local handicrafts, clothes, and souvenirs. Indulge in delicious street food and regional delicacies at the food stalls. Enjoy the vibrant atmosphere and live music performances. Shop till you drop or simply soak in the local culture. Prices for shopping and food vary.
