Marvel at the panoramic views of the Coachella Valley and Salton Sea from Keys View. It's a great spot for sunrise or sunset, so plan accordingly. Watch out for the strong winds and bring your binoculars to spot the San Andreas Fault!
Take a leisurely hike through the boulder-strewn Hidden Valley, a unique geological formation enclosed by giant rock formations and home to many bird species. Look for pictographs and petroglyphs on the rocks and have a picnic among the shady trees.
Experience the area's rich history with a visit to Barker Dam, a man-made reservoir built by early cattle ranchers in the late 1800s. The easy hike to the dam is perfect for families, and you might spot some bighorn sheep, coyotes, and jackrabbits.
If you have more time, consider exploring the Cholla Cactus Garden, a stunning forest of cholla cacti, or the Joshua Tree Oasis, a collection of lush oases fed by underground springs. If you have less time, skip Hidden Valley and head directly to Barker Dam for a shorter hike. Don't forget to bring plenty of water and sunscreen, and stay on designated trails to protect the fragile desert ecosystem.
