Mehrangarh Fort is one of the largest forts in India, perched atop a 400-feet-high hill. The fort boasts excellent views of the city below. It has several palaces, courtyards, and museums to explore, including the splendid Moti Mahal, Phool Mahal, and Sheesh Mahal. For a nominal fee, an audio guide is available to learn about the rich history of the fort. Then visit the Jaswant Thada, located just a short walk from Mehrangarh. It's a beautiful marble cenotaph built in honor of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II and offers views of the fort and the city.
Start with a visit to the Mandore Gardens, located on the outskirts of Jodhpur. The gardens are known for their beautiful temples and cenotaphs, which span centuries. Don't miss the Hall of Heroes, which displays effigies of local heroes and deities. Next, head to the Umaid Bhawan Palace, which is also a hotel and museum. The palace is a stunning example of Indo-Colonial architecture and has a collection of antique clocks, photographs, and furniture. It also houses a vintage car collection and a souvenir shop.
If you have more time, consider visiting the Sardar Market and Clock Tower for shopping and street food. Visiting the city during the RIFF (Rajasthan International Folk Festival) in October is a unique experience. For those with less time, consider combining Mehrangarh Fort and Jaswant Thada on Day 1 and visiting the local markets for shopping on Day 2.
