The Banasura Sagar Dam, located amidst the Banasura hills, is a towering structure that stands at a height of 15 metres. The dam offers a scenic view of the meandering waters of the Banasura Lake. Get on the speedboat rides, or opt for an easy nature walk to admire the surrounding scenery. There's also a butterfly park and a children's play area. You can also explore the nearby Meenmutty waterfalls, which is just a short drive away from the dam, and indulge in various water activities.
The Edakkal Caves are ancient rock structures that date back to the Neolithic Age. The caves contain inscriptions and drawings that provide clues to prehistoric civilization. These caves are also famous for being one of the highest altitude cave sites in India surrounded by dense green forests. The caves are accessible by trekking a steep hill, b ut the lush surroundings and stunning views make it a worthwhile climb.
If you have more time: Visit the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, which is a protected area known for its rich biodiversity and Elephant population. The Jain temple, Sulthan Bathery and Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary are also nearby and Worth a visit.
If you have less time: At Banasura Sagar Dam, you can skip speedboat rides and just stroll in the adjoining nature parks if you're short of time. At Edakkal Caves, you can go only up to the first level of caves if you don't want to trek the hill, but you'll miss the best views.
