Relax and swim in the natural pools of Porto Moniz, which are naturally formed by lava rocks. There are also some restaurants and cafes nearby.
Enjoy the breathtaking panoramic views of Madeira's highest peaks and valleys from Pico do Arieiro, which is accessible by car. You can also hike to Pico Ruivo, the highest peak in Madeira, from here.
Experience the beauty of Madeira's unique levadas, or irrigation channels, by hiking the Levada do Caldeirão Verde. This trail is about 8 kilometers long and takes you through lush landscapes, including a tunnel and a waterfall.
Explore the ancient and UNESCO-listed Laurissilva Forest, which has some of the largest laurel trees in the world. It is also home to several endemic birds and plants, as well as other wildlife. Check out the Ribeiro Frio Natural Park while you're there.
If you have more time, you can add a whale and dolphin watching tour or visit the Monte Palace Tropical Garden. If you have less time, skip the Porto Moniz Natural Pools or the Laurissilva Forest. Don't forget to bring comfortable outdoor clothing and layers, as the weather can vary throughout the day. It's also recommended to rent a car to move around the island.
