Begin your trip with a visit to one of the largest natural harbours in the world. Trincomalee Harbour has played a vital role in Sri Lanka's history and is still used by the Sri Lankan Navy. You can take a tour of the harbour and learn about its importance. After the tour, head to the nearby Koneswaram Temple, a temple complex on a cliff overlooking the ocean. The temple has a rich history and offers stunning views of the coast.
Explore the beautiful marine life by taking a boat to Pigeon Island National Park, a protected area home to over 100 species of coral and 300 species of fish. You can also spot sea turtles and enjoy snorkelling in the clear blue waters. After the tour, head to the nearby Kanniya Hot Springs, where you can relax in one of the seven natural hot springs with different temperatures and healing properties.
End your trip at Marble Beach, a secluded beach with crystal clear waters and white sand. Spend some time soaking up the sun and enjoying the beautiful surroundings. Then head to Fort Frederick, a historic fort built by the Portuguese in the 17th century and later used by the Dutch, British and Sri Lankan armies. The fort offers great views of the ocean and the city of Trincomalee.
If you have more time, you can explore the nearby towns of Nilaveli and Uppuveli, which offer beautiful beaches and water sports activities. You can also visit the Hood's Tower Museum, which showcases the history of Trincomalee. If you have less time, you can skip the Kanniya Hot Springs and explore the town centre of Trincomalee instead, which is full of markets, restaurants and shops.
