Start your trip in Guwahati, the largest city in Assam. Visit the Kamakhya Temple, an important Hindu shrine dedicated to Goddess Kamakhya. Take a stroll along the Brahmaputra Riverfront and indulge in some street food. Don't miss the opportunity to witness the sunset at Umananda Island, a riverine island located in the middle of Brahmaputra and reachable by ferry.
Head to Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya. Visit the Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures to learn about the region's ethnic diversity and heritage. Take a 30-minute drive to the Laitlum Canyons and enjoy the panoramic views of the tropical hills. Then, head to the Ward's Lake, a popular spot for boating and picnicking. End your day in the Police Bazaar, a bustling market selling souvenirs, handicrafts and street food.
On the final day of your trip, head to Cherrapunjee, the wettest place on earth. Explore the Nohkalikai Falls, the fourth highest waterfall in the world, cascading down from a height of 335 meters. Visit the Mawsmai Cave, a 250-meter-long limestone cave with naturally formed stalactites and stalagmites. In Meghalaya, the Sohra (Cherrapunjee) Eco Park and the Mawphlang Sacred Forest are also worth a visit. If you have less time, you can skip Umananda Island or Laitlum Canyons.
