Begin your adventure with a trek up the Chamundi Hill, located 13 km outside of Mysore. The hilltop temple offers fantastic panoramic views of the city below. It is a steep climb, but the view is sure to make it worth it. Don't forget to bring water and wear comfortable shoes. The temple itself is a beautiful sight, with intricate carvings and a colossal statue of Nandi, the bull.
Head over to the Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, located 20 km north of Mysore. A boat ride on the river running through the sanctuary provides sightings of different bird species, including storks, kingfishers, and herons. If you are lucky, you might even spot a crocodile or two! This scenic walk provides an excellent opportunity to escape the city’s busy streets and immerse yourself in nature’s beauty.
Experience a thrilling ride of spotting tigers and other wildlife creatures at the Nagarhole National Park. It consists of lush green forest cover, waterfalls, and streams snaking its way through the park. Go on an early morning or late evening safari to have the best chance of sighting wildlife. Safari timings are from 6:30 am-8:30 am and 3 pm- 5:30 pm
If you are looking for something more adventurous, then head back to Mysore and go paragliding like a bird over the beautiful Mysore region. A professional will accompany you at all times so that you can enjoy the scenic views and have a unique perspective of the city from 500ft in the air. You may want to bring a camera or GoPro to capture this thrilling experience.
If you have more time, add the Brindavan Gardens to your itinerary, known for its musical fountains, or explore the Mysore Palace, a historical palace that provides an insight into the rich history of the Wodeyar dynasty. If you have less time, you can skip the Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary and go straight to Nagarhole National Park. Make sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes, bring an extra set of clothes and mosquito repellent for the National park safari, and keep yourself hydrated at all times during these adventures.
