Start the first day immersing in Kochi's rich history and culture by visiting the Paradesi Synagogue. Built-in 1568, it is the oldest active synagogue in the Commonwealth of Nations, located in Jew Town and a symbol of the fruitful harmony between religions in Kochi. Next, head to the Dutch Palace, also known as Mattancherry Palace, built-in 1557 by the Portuguese. It was later renovated by the Dutch when they took over the palace in the 17th century and features an impressive collection of Hindu murals. Finish the day by walking down the historic Jew Town and explore the stalls of spices, antiques, and souvenirs.
End the day on a relaxing note by visiting the Chinese Fishing Nets, which were introduced by traders from the court of Kublai Khan. The nets are considered engineering marvels, and the sight of them dipped in the water as the sun sets is breathtaking. You can also savor fresh seafood caught using these nets at the restaurants around the area.
Start the day by exploring the various art galleries in Kochi. The Kerala Folklore Museum features an extensive collection of antique artifacts and traditional Kerala costumes. Next, head to the Blooming Art Gallery to see some contemporary art by budding Indian artists.
After lunch, spend an afternoon in the lap of nature by visiting the Mangalavanam Bird Sanctuary, which is home to several migratory birds, turtles, and fish and surrounded by the busy cityscape.
End the day by enjoying the view of the Kochi coastline at the Marine Drive Promenade. The 3km stretch has several cafes, food stalls, and shops.
If you have more time, consider visiting the hill station of Munnar (4-5 hr drive from Kochi) or the beautiful backwaters of Alleppey (1.5 hr drive from Kochi). Additionally, if you have an extra day, consider taking the ferry to Fort Kochi and exploring the cafes and shops in the region.
