Aliyar Dam, also known as the Aliyar Reservoir, was built in the 1950s across the Aliyar River. It is surrounded by lush green forests and hills, and the dam offers an incredible view of the valley below. Visitors can take a boat ride or a swim in the reservoir or trek to the nearby Anaimalai Hills.
Located on the border between Tamil Nadu and Kerala, the Sholayar Dam is the second-largest rock dam in Asia. The dam offers a scenic view of the surrounding hills and forests. Visitors can take a short trek to the nearby Athirapally Falls or explore the Valparai tea estates.
If you have more time, you can explore the nearby Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to various species of flora and fauna. However, keep in mind that you will need a jeep to enter the sanctuary, and the park is closed on Mondays. If you have less time, you can skip the Sholayar Dam and explore the nearby tea estates or visit the Nallamudi Poonjolai viewpoint, which offers a panoramic view of the valley below.
