As foodie travellers, a homestay would be the perfect option to start our journey. We will be welcomed with traditional Garhwali food. En-route, you can stop at Devprayag, the birthplace of the Ganges river. You can visit the Dhari Devi Mandir, located near the confluence of the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi Rivers.
Start your day with a hot breakfast at Hotel Snow View. Try Mini Idlis and Kuttu Poori or aloo paratha with curd. Relax a little and start moving towards Tungnath. It is the highest Shiva temple in the world and only 4 km trek from Chopta. After darshan, have chapati and dal at the Langar Hall.
Take an early morning trek to Deoriatal Lake, surrounded by mountains and forests. After trekking, have lunch with the view of the Kedarnath peak. You can have the delicious feast prepared by locals consisting of biryani and raita made from local ingredients.
As we come to the end of our journey, a local Garhwali dinner at Ukimath will give you the best send-off. Authentic Garhwali thali is the highlight of thier cuisine with traditional delicacies like Bal Mithai, Singodi, Pahadi Kheer, and much more.
If you are looking for more adventure, try camping at Chopta. You may also vist the nearby regions of Rudraprayag or Ukhimath. If you have more time, visit Badrinath and Kedarnath temples to have a traditional essence of Garhwal. If you have less time, skip Deoriatal Lake, and spend some more time at Tungnath to explore the temple and surrounding area.
