First, take a ferry to reach Vivekananda Rock Memorial. This structure was built in honour of Swami Vivekananda, who meditated on this rock. From there, a short walk takes you to the Thiruvalluvar Statue. This towering sculpture is a tribute to the Tamil philosopher and poet, Thiruvalluvar. The view from the top of the statue is breathtaking and provides a panoramic view of the surrounding sea.
Take a stroll on the sands of the Kanyakumari Beach. You can also get a glimpse of the Vivekananda Memorial and the Thiruvalluvar Statue from the beach. Next, visit the Gandhi Memorial, a stunning building with an architecture that imbibes both the Indian and Western styles. The ash-covered remains of Mahatma Gandhi are kept here for the public to pay homage to.
The view of the sunset from this point is famed for its beauty. The red and orange sun rays radiating over the ocean water is a sight to behold. You can sit among the rocks and enjoy the tranquillity, as the waves break against the shore.
This 16th-century wooden palace is in Thuckalay and is truly a masterpiece. The walls are intricately carved with patterns, the roofs have scripture printed on them, and the floors are made of polished wood. The palace has a unique drainage system that keeps the palace flooded with freshwater all the time.
Kovalam Beach is one of the best beaches on the south coast of India. The water is crystal clear, and the beach is clean. You can participate in activities like swimming, sunbathing, and surfing. There are many stalls on the beach that offer local seafood dishes and coconut water.
If you have an additional day, you can go on an early morning hike to the Bhoothathankettu Dam. If you have less time, you can skip the sunset point, the Kanyakumari Beach or Kovalam Beach, depending on your interests. You can visit the Vattakottai Fort, an 18th-century fort that offers brilliant views of the sea coast, instead of Kovalam.
