Transportation
Travelers in Madeira should consider renting a car to easily explore the island. Alternatively, buses and taxis are also available, but bus schedules are limited outside of Funchal. Expect to spend around 50-60€ per day on a car rental and 2-5€ for a one-way bus ride.
Useful Tips
If you have more time, consider taking a trip to Porto Santo Island or exploring the Laurissilva Forest. For less time, skip the Cristiano Ronaldo Museum or the Levada do Rei hike.
Airports
Madeira Airport (FNC) is located in Santa Cruz, about 16km from Funchal. It is the main international gateway to the island with several flights per day from mainland Portugal and various European cities. Taxis are readily available at the airport, and the Aerobus shuttle service costs around 8€ for a one-way ticket to Funchal.
